We haven’t eaten out at all, except for the odd sandwich or palmier (delicious caramelised pastry) which doesn’t really count. Spain, like Portugal, is one of those countries where people stick to their traditional dishes, the spanish eat spanish food. That might seem totally obvious, but Continue reading
Catalan Countryside and What We Have Been Up To
We are visiting David’s uncle and aunty who live an hour or so away from Barcelona in the countryside. I don’t think there is an english word for where exactly they live because its not a village, in Spanish it’s called an urbanización.
L’Aquarium de Barcelona: the Wonderful World Beneath the Sea (which, by the way, we are destroying)
When we lived in England I promised to take David to Plymouth Aquarium, but never got around to it (bad girlfriend points). We decided that when we got to Barcelona we could go to the Aquarium there. We didn’t realise it costs 20€ per person when we made that promise!
The Amazing Park Güell
The Park Güell (named in English, influenced by the british garden towns) is another of Gaudi’s surreal and beautiful creations. Can you believe that this has been around for over a hundred years? You can read about its construction here.
This is the main entrace, but we actually came in a different one.
Finally Getting On with Some Touristy Things: La Casa Batlló y La Sagrada Familia
Much to my frustration WordPress still hasn’t sorted the bug but I have found away around it – although it takes a little longer to write a post now :/
I’m sorry for being so absent recently! Its time to get back on track!
After so much deliberation about what days we should see what, we ended up visiting two of Gaudi’s most celebrated constructions spontaneosly. We hardly even had any battery on the camera!
It all came about because I have decided to make a dress and needed to bet some material from an amazing shop in the centre. Continue reading
Last Days in Andorra
We are back in Barcelona now and I have been so busy learning to knit, researching how to make a dress and err… Reading Anna Keranina, that I haven’t got around to writing about our last days in Andorra. Not to mention the latest update on WordPress has messed it up :/ so if there are any random letters or signs at the end of the post thats why.
Popping Back into Spain for the Day: Seu d’Urgell and the Mountains
Seu d’Urgell holds a great little market on a tuesday and is also the seat of the Bishop Urgell, one of Andorra’s co-princes (you can totally tell where my priorities lie!). The town is just outside of Andorra, about half an hour from Andorra La Vella. We got the bus, so it took a little longer. Continue reading
Learning to Ski
Robert got us into the most amazing ski resort Grandvalira which was hosting the finals of the european downhill championships, the first downhill in the history of Andorra. Ever. The speed at which those guys ski is crazy, 2,9km in 1 min 37 secs! Thats an average of about 107km/h. And that is on a difficult slope… Continue reading
La Calçotada
La Calçotada is an event at the end of winter celebrating the end of the snow and the harvest of calçots.
Calçots are somewhere between a spring onion and a leek. They are grilled on an open flame until the outside is black and the inside is caramelised deliciousness. As of thats not good enough already, they are served with a delicious sauce called romesco, bread, botifarra (a kind a sausage) and wine.

Welcome to Andorra
Andorra is a tiny country in the Pyrenees between France and Spain where David’s older brothers live. It’s also where we had our first holiday together some 4 years ago.
It’s a beautiful little country best known for duty free shopping and skiing. Continue reading
